The typical training path to become a pilot starts with these steps
Your instructor will take you on a short flight to introduce you to the airplane, the airport, and the thrill of taking the controls of a safe, reliable Cessna airplane for the first time.
With Northway’s Cessna Ground School kit, you will use our interactive programs designed to compliment your actual flight experience.
A brief exam is required to obtain your student pilot certificate and third class medical. If you are under age 40 this will last for 5 years, over 40 and it will last 2 years.
Your ground training courses will compliment flight training with your instructor. For each ground lesson you complete you will conduct a flight lesson and get you closer to the first milestone of solo flight.
Once you have reached a point where you and your instructor feel you are ready, you will take to the air by yourself. This is an enormous achievement that very few people have ever accomplished and a day you will never forget.
Fly as much as possible to gain experience and build upon everything you learned prior to your first solo flight, both with an instructor and on your own.
When you have passed the knowledge test you will take the Practical Test, also known as a checkride. This is conducted by an FAA designated examiner and consists of an oral and flight exam. That’s it, you will be handed a temporary pilot certificate immediately and can now enjoy the freedom of flight!
Once you get your pilot certificate, get as much experience as possible, get involved, and stay connected. Most importantly, keep flying!
